Although it may sound simple, there is truly an art to styling a bed. A bed serves as a centrepiece to a bedroom and is an opportunity to play with colours and textures in your home. A beautifully made bed can create a polished, luxurious look in any bedroom.

Whether you're someone who loves the crisp, minimalist look or prefers a cozy, layered nest, mastering the art of bed styling can transform your entire room. You can achieve this look in your own home with our tips on tricks on how to layer and style a bed, as though it looks straight from a home magazine.

  1. Begin with a good foundation

The foundation of a well-styled bed is quality bedding. Your bed should be your haven. So investing in high-quality bed linen does not only bring luxury but provides comfort - cotton and linen are popular choices for softness and breathability.

Adding a large, fluffy quilt will not only make your bed feel cosy but will also bring a sense of elegance. Opting for neutral tones with quilt covers or coverlets such as white, ivory, beige or grey will brighten the space and provide a blank canvas for the decorative cushions and throws; this is also a cost-effective way to change colours and textures as you please.

  1. Pillows

Introduce softness and height to the bed through European and standard pillow arrangements. To create a cohesive appearance, coordinate the standard pillowcases with the sheet or quilt. We also suggest incorporating European pillows into your bed styling and opting for textures and patterns that compliment your quilt cover and the overall look of the bedroom. For a structured and sophisticated look, prop up your pillows as this allows you to play with heights and frame the space.

3. Introduce a colour palette

Choose a balanced colour palette that you want to showcase in your bedroom, and display this through decorative cushions and throws. Drawing inspiration from existing colours in the space will create a sense of cohesion and harmonious balance throughout the room. These colours may be drawn from wall colours, accent pieces or artwork.

4. Textures and layering

Adding textural layers will add depth and dimension to your bed. This can be done by folding back the top of your quilt, playing with different heights of decorative cushions and draping a throw over the foot of the bed. Throws can be easily draped or folded to bring colour and texture to the bed. These textures and layers will bring visual interest and exude a cosy and relaxed feel to the space, elevating the overall look of the bedroom.

Styling a bed is an art that allows us to create a visually appealing and cosy space. Through a harmonious colour palette and incorporating decorative accents, our beds can become a focal point in our bedrooms. It’s not only about aesthetics but also about creating a comfortable sanctuary where we can unwind and relax. So, experiment with different styles and embrace your creativity to style to the perfect bed for your home. Happy styling!
